EKLA Stethoscopes

Optimal Acoustics By Design

EKLA’s Classic Dual Head (EBST-100) and Premium Dual Head Stethoscopes (EPST-100) are high-quality stethoscope products for inpatient and outpatient use. EKLA has used copper tubing for over 10 years which provides less attenuation during sound transmission. Copper is a high-density metal and provides better sound transmission than competitive aluminum stethoscopes in this product category. Copper construction enables our stethoscopes to more effectively transmit heart, lung and vascular sounds allowing for a more accurate diagnosis. Our tubing is also of higher wall thickness than many of our competitors which effectively reduces ambient sound levels.

The small, deep, cone-shaped chest piece and PVC constructed diaphragm (Cardiology stethoscope, 48mm and Premium, 47 mm) are optimized for the patient’s chest anatomy and provide superior sound clarity.

Extremely soft PVC constructed earpiece tips provide optimal ear canal alignment, external sound cancellation and extreme comfort for the clinician.

EKLA’s Cardiology Dual Head (ECST-100) and Premium Dual Head (EPST-100) stethoscopes are designed with a proprietary designed non-chill bell and diaphragm to maximize patient comfort.

Stethoscope headset angle and the angle of the ear tube can be adjusted depending on the clinician’s face and head size to ensure optimal user comfort. EKLA’s ergonomic earplug design ensures optimal fit to the external auditory canal. The embedded headset spring also contributes to the proper alignment of the earpiece in the clinician’s ear canal. This optimal seal reduces external sound interference and maximizes clinician comfort over long periods of wear time.

Disposable Stethoscopes

Lower the risk of patient to patient cross-contamination.

EKLA’s disposable, single-patient stethoscope should be used with patients under isolation precautions, stay in the patient's room while the patient is in isolation, and be disposed of when no longer needed. Single head, ultrasensitive diaphragm offers excellent acoustic sound quality. These disposable, flexible, lightweight, latex free PVC tubing provides comfortable patient assessments.  High yellow color allows for easy location at the bedside.

  • Patients in isolation are among the most infectious and can be vulnerable and susceptible to infection

  • A single-patient stethoscope should be used with patients under isolation precautions, stay in the patient's room while the patient is in isolation, and be disposed of when no longer needed¹

Quality Design And Construction

All EKLA stethoscopes are designed to optimize the acoustical characteristics of the human ear. There are multiple factors that affect the auditory accuracy of EKLA stethoscopes. Here is a list of factors and how EKLA stethoscope construction and design reduces inaccurate auscultation:

The angle of ear insertion and ear tip design

One of the largest factors affecting auditory accuracy is how the headset is worn by the clinician. An incorrect angle of the earpiece in the clinician’s ear will prevent accurate patient auscultation. EKLA’s large, ergonomic ear tips and adjustable angled metal headpiece ensure a proper anterior aspect ear canal insertion.  The tight seal created by the ergonomic earpiece also greatly reduces ambient noise which could limit auscultation.

Size, volume and hardness of the bell

EKLA has maximized the size and volume of our bell chest piece which allows it to auscultate slight and low-frequency sounds. EKLA’s large diameter bell also maximizes the transmission of low sound frequencies. EKLA uses high-density stainless steel in our Cardiology stethoscopes and copper in our Premium stethoscopes to ensure optimal sound conductivity.

Diaphragm thickness and size

EKLA diaphragms range from 47mm to 48mm and consist of ultrathin PVC to maximize contact with body surface by the chest piece which optimizes sound transmission from the body. Diaphragm construction also limits air leaks between components, such as chest pieces and body surfaces.  EKLA’s smooth, stiff and thin diaphragm is ideal for capturing high frequencies.  This flexible diagram also increases the pressure and degree of mechanical contact on the body surface by the chest piece.

Interior surface smoothness of the tube and tube diameter

EKLA’s large diameter and long length, internally smooth, vinyl tubing reduces sound loss during sound transmission.

All EKLA stethoscopes meet the YY 91035-1999 stethoscope performance standard. The adult interface frequency response curve of our stethoscopes meets 2.2.2.1 requirements:

  • In the range of 100~500Hz, the attenuation is not more than 12dB based on the test sound source.

  • In the range of 500~1000Hz, the attenuation is not more than 20dB based on the test sound source.

EKLA is proud to be one of the very few stethoscope manufacturers that conducts frequency response testing as a part of our Quality Control process.
